“Visitors will help us prepare the earth for our heritage gardens, but we’re going to do it in a way that honors a remarkable piece of history.”
When the Doukhobors first arrived, they often had no horses. To plant the gardens that would feed their communities, they did something extraordinary, they hitched themselves to the ploughs.
It was an act of peaceful perseverance, a refusal to give up, and a testament to the power of people working together.
✅ We have two ploughs. Rather than racing, your goal is to work together to open the earth. Let’s see what we can accomplish as a community.
✅ Plough Team #1: The Spirit Wrestlers
✅ Plough Team #2: The Toil of Peace
The goal is to plough a set number of furrows for each garden plot. Cheering and encouragement between the teams is perfect, reinforcing the communal feel.
You’ll receive , a seed packet for the heritage vegetables that will be planted in the garden they just prepared.
